Bocconotto of Castel Frentano
Bocconotto di Castel Frentano
Sweets of shortcrust pastry filled with chocolate, almonds and cinnamon, baked and finished with powdered sugar.
Castel Frentano bocconotto is a baked dessert made of a thin pastry shell and a dense, aromatic, and richly contrasting filling. The crumbly, golden exterior encloses a dark, creamy filling where chocolate meets the texture of toasted almonds and the scent of cinnamon. Preparation requires careful attention, especially in managing the temperature: the filling must cool before being placed in the molds, while the pastry must adhere to the sides in an even layer to support the filling and seal without any gaps. Baking at 180°C (356°F) completes the balance between the pastry shell and the interior, giving the desserts an amber color. This recipe is considered a traditional Abruzzo dish.
